’16 AT 30 THOUSAND
Yes, broad pronouncements based on a single poll can be overly dramatic at best, but today’s Quinnipiac poll gave us a glimpse into two things that might be happening in the GOP field. First, a five percent showing for John Kasich shows that it’s possible that his gambit to enter the race shortly before the first GOP debate may be paying off. His support in the Quinnipiac poll was just enough to vault him into the top 10 list that NBC News has been tracking. The loser? Rick Perry, who’s now in eleventh place. We’d been wondering whether or not Perry’s ongoing feud with Donald Trump would earn him any love from GOP voters not enamored of The Donald, but at least this national poll seems to indicate that the answer’s a big no. So here’s our question: If Lindsey Graham and Rick Perry haven’t boosted their numbers by denouncing Trump, will any other GOP candidates risk taking him on? Or will everyone’s takeaway be that there’s no glory to be gained by going to war with Trump?
