Mitt Romney has recorded robocalls for Ted Cruz ahead of Tuesday’s nominating contests in Arizona and Utah, calling on “Republicans across the spectrum to unite behind Ted.”

Romney calls Cruz “the only Republican candidate who can defeat Donald Trump” and says “at this point a vote for John Kasich is a vote for Donald Trump.”

Last week Romney announced he would vote for Cruz in the Utah caucuses. He has helped lead the charge against Trump, writing that “Trumpism has become associated with racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, vulgarity and, most recently, threats and violence. I am repulsed by each and every one of these.”

Romney made similar calls for Kasich ahead of last week’s primary in Ohio and even campaigned with the Buckeye State governor. But Kasich’s huge delegate deficit has made his candidacy unviable, Romney argues.

The 2012 Republican presidential nominee wrote last week that “a vote for Governor Kasich in future contests makes it extremely likely that Trumpism would prevail.”
