Less than a week after her husband announced he wouldn't be seeking reelection to his U.S. House seat in Michigan, Democrat Debbie Dingell formally announced Friday that she’ll run to succeed him.

The Ann Arbor area congressional seat has already been held by someone with the last name Dingell for more than 80 years.

John Dingell Sr. served in the House from 1933-1955; John Dingell Jr. (Debbie's husband) has served from 1955-present; and Debbie Dingell is now running for the seat.

State Sen. Rebekah Warren, a Democrat from Ann Arbor, Mich., has announced that she's forming an exploratory committee to consider a run as well.

NBC's Carrie Dann contributed.
