He spent sixteen years as Louisiana’s governor and nearly nine years behind bars for racketeering. Now, he’s running for Congress.
Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards, 86, made his long-anticipated run for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District official on Monday, The Times Picayune reports.
"I acknowledge there are good reasons I should not run. But there are better reasons why I should," he said, according to the paper.
Edwards, a Democrat, made the announcement at the Press Club of Baton Rouge.
He was released from prison in 2011.
