President Barack Obama has “strong confidence” in Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz despite reports that party leaders are losing faith in her, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Thursday.
“Based on the strong track record of leadership that she has already demonstrated at the DNC, the president has strong confidence in her ability to lead that organization,” Earnest said.
Politico reported Wednesday that the White House and Democrats in Congress have lost confidence in Wasserman Schultz’s leadership ahead of the midterm elections. Some Democrats view her as a political liability because of recent eyebrow raising comments about Republicans and the perception she is more concerned with her own political future than winning in November, according to the report.
Earnest said he does not anticipate Rep. Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., stepping down before the end of her term in 2017.
