A month before his primary race, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is up with a new 30-second TV ad touting his conservative credentials.

"Mitch McConnell -- he's not a show horse; Mitch is a genuine Kentucky workhorse," the narrator says in the ad. "Last year, he saved 99% of Kentuckians from an income tax increase... Mitch fights for Kentucky miners against Obama's war on coal. And he's leading the fight against Obamacare."

McConnell faces Tea Party challenger Matt Bevin on May 20.

A spokeswoman for McConnell’s Democratic challenger, Alison Lundergan Grimes, called the ad “misleading campaign rhetoric.”

“It's curious that a self-described 'work horse' hasn't found the time to propose a jobs plan in the face of these trying economic times,” Grimes spokeswoman Charly Norton said in a statement. “Kentuckians will have a choice this November between more of the same from Mitch McConnell or the forward-looking vision of Alison Lundergan Grimes.”
