Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is taking a formal step towards a presidential campaign, announcing Tuesday that he's launching a new organization called “Our American Revival” to support his message.

The governor's team says that the new 527 leadership organization will "communicate a vision and work to enact policies that will lead to a more free and prosperous America by restoring power to the states."

"To move this country forward we need new, fresh leadership from outside Washington," Walker said in a statement announcing the launch. "We need leaders who are bold. That's how we build a better future for our children and grandchildren. We've done it in Wisconsin and it can be done across this country with the right leadership."

Rick Wiley, a former political director for the Republican National Committee and a recent hire by the Wisconsin governor, will serve as the organization's executive director.

Walker, frequently cited as a strong presidential contender because of his conservative credentials and victories in a Democratic-leaning state, won headlines for a strong performance at this weekend's GOP cattle call in Des Moines.
