Vice President Joe Biden said he was ready to drop a bombshell announcement when he appeared as a guest on the debut of NBC's "Late Night" with Seth Meyers on Monday.

But, being a courteous guest, he decided against saying anything that could overshadow the unveiling of late night's newest comic.

"Well you know I was planning on making a major announcement tonight, but I decided tonight is your night," Biden joked after Meyers asked about the prospects of a 2016 presidential run.

"So I hope you'll invite me back," the VP added.

However, comedian Amy Poehler, who also appeared on the show's debut Monday, said she has made up her mind.

"I'm going to run for president," she said.
