GOP Rep. Introduces 'World's Greatest Healthcare Plan'

Whether you call it “Trumpcare,” “Ryancare,” or “Obamacare Lite,” there is one name that stands above the rest when it comes to alternatives to the Affordable Care Act:

Whether you call it “Trumpcare,” “Ryancare,” or “Obamacare Lite,” there is one name that stands above all the rest when it comes to alternatives to the Affordable Care Act: “World's Greatest Healthcare Plan of 2017.

It’s not the name of the Obamacare alternative now being hotly debated in Congress (that’s the The American Health Care Act), rather it is a different Republican healthcare reform bill introduced by GOP Rep. Pete Sessions last week.

It is the second time the Texas Republican, along with Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., has put forth legislation with that boastful title. The first came last May as Donald Trump, known for making definitive claims of greatness, neared clinching the Republican presidential nomination.

And though the 2016 version did not get much traction, Sessions reintroduced the bill this year as the healthcare debate took center stage in Congress.

The “World's Greatest Healthcare Plan of 2017” would eliminate individual and employer health coverage mandates from Obamacare, but would not fully repeal the former president signature law.

A spokesman for Sessions’ told USA Today the bill is not meant to compete with the one introduced by Congressional leadership earlier this week, and that he supports the GOP plan.
