An aide to presidential candidate Donald Trump was fired after racially-charged statements were uncovered on his personal Facebook page, a campaign spokesman told NBC News Sunday.

Business Insider first reported the racist posts on Trump campaign staffer Sam Nunberg's Facebook page dated back to 2007. In one, he called the Rev. Al Sharpton's daughter a racial slur, according to Business Insider. In another, he called President Barack Obama a "Socialist Marxist Islamo Fascist Nazi Appeaser."

Nunberg, on Saturday, denied to NBC News that he had written the posts, but the Trump campaign said Sunday that it had confirmed the posts were, in fact, his and fired him.

Campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Nunberg was "just a short-time consultant with the campaign."

"Mr. Trump would never condone such statements from anybody in his campaign even if that person had a low-level campaign position," Lewandowski said.

The Associated Press reported that Nunberg has "spent years" working for the Trump organization, but was fired in 2014 before he was rehired.

Trump, who is known for making inflammatory statements of his own, is leading the GOP primary race, according to the latest NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday.
