The Senate battle over the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court hit a major road block Monday as Democrats acquired enough votes to effectively block him under Senate rules.
So far, 41 Democratic senators have said they will support a filibuster of the nomination, meaning Republicans can't get the 60 votes required to overcome it.
Republican leader Mitch McConnell has indicated he will seek a change in the Senate rules — known as the "nuclear option" — that would eliminate the filibuster for this nomination and, possibly, for future Supreme Court nominations.
