The meeting planned for Tuesday between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Donald Trump has been rescheduled due to bad weather, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Monday during his daily briefing.

The highly anticipated meeting has been been moved to Friday. Snowstorms threaten to hit the East Coast overnight Monday and into Tuesday, with cities like New York, Boston and Washington, D.C., in its crosshairs.

The president is expected to hold a joint press conference with Merkel on Friday.

Trump was outspoken in his criticism of Merkel during the campaign, specifically attacking her for the decision to allow refugees from war-torn countries into Germany. The two remain at odds over how best to handle the refugee crisis, with Merkel criticizing the president's first travel ban even as she acknowledges the negative impacts of her own decision to accept refugees into Germany.
