Hugh Hefner was just as surprised as anyone to learn that he was apparently on his death bed.

"I wish the tabloids had informed me a little earlier in the week that I’m sick. I might have cancelled my weekend plans," he quipped on Twitter Friday evening.

Reports began swirling Friday morning after the Playboy founder was deemed "super sick" in a New York Post Page 6 gossip column. The rumors even prompted Los Angeles police to pay the 90-year-old a home visit to check on his well being.

"Mr. Hefner spoke with an officer at the West LA station and confirmed he's OK," LAPD Officer Mike Lopez assured NBC Los Angeles.

The silk pajama enthusiast set the record straight himself on Friday evening by tweeting a photo of himself seemingly alive and well next to his third wife, Crystal Hefner, 30, announcing that it was movie night at the Playboy Mansion.

Hef tweeted again about 30 minutes later just to make it perfectly clear that rumors of his death had been greatly exaggerated.
