'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Earns $187.7 Million, Second Highest Opening Ever

The newest Marvel superhero sage earned $187.7 million in its first weekend, the second highest debut in history. The film has earned $627 million worldwide in 12 days.

It was a weekend for the “ages” as the new Avengers movie as it scored the second highest domestic opening in history.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” took in a staggering “$187.7 million, exceeding the initial haul of all other movies except the 2012 Avengers film, which scored $207.4 million, Variety.com reported.

It did manage to exceed the haul of its Marvel stablemate “Iron Man 3,” which had held the second spot with $174.1 million.

The newest superhero saga has earned $627 million worldwide in just 12 days.

The Avengers film easily outpaced “Age of Adaline,” the second highest earner for the weekend with a comparatively paltry $6.7 million in ticket sales.

“Furious 7” fell to third place with $6.1 million, enough to push its domestic take to $330.5 million and its worldwide ticket sales to $1.4 billion – the fourth highest total on record.

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” came in fourth, with $5.5 million and the animated feature “Home” filled out the top five with $3.3 million.
