Fault in our Stars’ Bench Goes Missing in Amsterdam

The green bench on which the teens in the romantic hit “The Fault in Our Stars” kissed — and shared excruciatingly heartbreaking news — has gone missing and the entire city of Amsterdam is a suspect.

"It's a bit embarrassing, because we do keep good track of them, but it's gone all right," said city spokesman Stephan van der Hoek.

The absence of the green bench that used to sit on the Leidsegracht and resembles hundreds of others around the city went unnoticed for at least a month. Suspects in the disappearance include the city itself, which may have removed the old bench away for repairs, as well as neighbors unhappy with tourist traffic, vandals or fans wanting to own a small piece of film history.

Fans of the film, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, had begun asking where the bench is after finding only a large flower pot on the spot. Van der Hoek said the bench will be replaced—if the city has one in stock.
