The former "Community" star joins actor Alden Ehrenreich, who is set to play the lead in the still-untitled Han Solo "Star Wars" film. The movie is helmed by "Lego Movie" directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

"We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us," Lord and Miller said in a statement. "These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever."

Glover, 33, created and stars in the new hit dramedy "Atlanta" on FX and is a Grammy-nominated rapper under the name Childish Gambino.

Lando — a blue-caped smooth-talking space smuggler — was made famous by Billy Dee Williams in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back" and 1983's "Return of the Jedi."

The film will show "Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy's underworld," according to a statement from Lucasfilm on Starwars.com.

It is scheduled for release in May 2018.
