David Bowie's last album, "Blackstar" — released just two days before he died — has debuted at the top of Billboard's 200 chart, making it his first No. 1.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week, using metrics including traditional album sales, and streaming metrics, according to Billboard.
On Monday, the day Bowie died of cancer at the age of 69, sales of the album, already lauded by critics, soared exponentially, according to Reuters. Streaming service Spotify said streams of Bowie's music were up 2,700 percent that day.
"Blackstar" last week sold 181,000 equivalent album units, as compared with his previous first-week record of 85,000 sales of The Next Day in 2013, according to Billboard.
Bowie's achievement will be reflected on the Billboard 200 list that will be posted on Wednesday.
According to Billboard, Bowie "previously hit the region with The Next Day (peaking at No. 2 in 2013), Let’s Dance(No. 4, 1983), ChangesOneBowie (No. 10, 1976), Station to Station (No. 3, 1976),Young Americans (No. 9, 1975), David Live (No. 8, 1974) and Diamond Dogs (No. 5, 1974)."
