Lil Wayne's tour bus was shot up outside Atlanta early Sunday following an incident at a downtown hotel, police said.

Witnesses told police that "multiple" shots were fired from a white car at two buses in the rapper's entourage as the entourage rolled eastbound on Interstate 285 near I-75, about 20 miles north of downtown Atlanta, officials said.

It was unclear how many shots were fired or how often each bus was struck.

No one was injured in the 3:41 a.m. shooting, Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce told NBC News. Pierce added that there up to a dozen people were on the two buses but that several passengers had left the scene before police could question them.

Pierce said that the convoy was leaving Atlanta after a Saturday night gig and that Atlanta police were investigating an earlier incident at the hotel where Lil Wayne — real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. — was staying.

Atlanta police didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Just last month, Lil Wayne's Miami Beach mansion was targeted by a "swatting" call after someone reported — apparently falsely — that shots had been fired at the 15,000-square-foot home. Lil Wayne's record label told NBC Miami confirmed that he wasn't home at the time of the call.
