"Saturday Night Live" host John Goodman got a little unexpected help from Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone. In a holiday-themed skit about the "Three Wise Guys," the stars of "Grudge Match" joined this week's host on a trip via camel to visit newborn baby Jesus — and gossip about the kid.
Dressed in track suits and decked out in gold chains, the dudes from the East Coast — from Long Island and New Jersey, apparently — dropped jokes about everything, from their mode of travel to the Biblical figures themselves.
"You know what? I hear his father's in construction," Stallone said to his fellow travelers at one point.
"Yeah, little Joey from Nazareth. He's all grown up!" Goodman added.
"Yeah, but I heard the kid might not be his!" De Niro buzzed. And when questioned about where he heard that juicy tidbit, he replied, "I know a couple of angels. I hear things, OK? You know, relax!"
Goodman, who was back to host "SNL" for the 13th time, also had a bit of fun during the Weekend Update with the Bobby Moynihan's popular character Drunk Uncle.
The "Argo" actor played Drunk Uncle's Drunker Uncle. While slurring his way through the bit — with a drink in each hand, of course — Drunker Uncle let some non-PC comments fly: "Why is Santa so dumb? Because he's North Polish!"
During the show's cold open, "SNL" took a stab at one of the most buzzed about news items of the week: the fake sign-language interpreter who stood beside President Obama and other speakers at Nelson Mandela's memorial.
While the president (Jay Pharoah) did a press conference to address the concerns about his selfie and handshake with Raul Castro at the Mandela event, Kenan Thompson impersonated the fake signer. With a grin on his face, Thompson's interpreter came up with imaginative signs for the president's speech: "raised" was raising the roof; "website" was Spider-Man flinging his webs; "thrill" was the dance from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video; and many more.
Next week, Jimmy Fallon will host, with musical guest (and a the late-night host's frequent musical collaborator) Justin Timberlake.
