Dad-to-be Simon Cowell is opening up about his upcoming bundle of joy and about the woman he'll be sharing that joy with. Good thing, because according to the "X Factor" bigwig, many people have the wrong idea about just what's going on.

"I can't blame the media because it's kind of what I call a juicy story," Cowell told talk host Ellen DeGeneres about the details of his not-so-private life. "But there was a lot of stuff said about (Lauren Silverman), that she trapped me and that she's a gold digger — absolute nonsense. I mean, she's a great girl."

Still, Cowell admitted that the circumstances, which include the fact that Silverman was still married when they learned about her pregnancy, were "awkward."

"(I thought) oh my God, this is exciting, and it's going to be a bit of a nightmare for the next few weeks," he recalled. "'Cause everyone knows, it was well documented. It was kind of uncomfortable, you know, the situation. But these things happen and everything is kind of calm now, and I'm happy."

Not just happy. "I'm actually happier than I've ever been," he insisted.

Watch the full interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" when it airs on Tuesday (check local listings for time and channel), and then see more from Cowell when "The X Factor" returns Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
