Gay Head Island features picturesque cliffs and the Gay Head Lighthouse. Peleg Coffin, a Massachusetts state senator, requested the lighthouse in 1796 to aid the heavy marine traffic throughout Vineyard Sound. President Barack Obama and his family vacationed on the island, but they weren't the first first family to visit the Vineyard: Bill Clinton famously spent time on the island during his presidency.
