The next iPhone is coming and it's going to be big. Re/Code reported that Apple is planning to unveil what the press has dubbed the "iPhone 6" on Sept. 9, causing countless people to mysteriously "lose" their phones in anticipation. What is everybody so excited about?
Numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, have cited sources saying that Apple is looking to launch 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones. That would be a serious size upgrade from the current 4-inch model, bringing the iPhone closer to competitors like the 5.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S5.
Goodbye, Gorilla Glass
For the 4.7-inch iPhone (and possibly the 5.5-inch version), news outlets like The Guardian are reporting that Apple is making the switch to sapphire glass, the durable material used previously for the iPhone 5s' camera lens and home button. If true, it could mean the end of scratched and shattered iPhone screens.
It's likely that the next iPhone models will come equipped with iOS 8 and the TouchID fingerprint scanners. One certainty: Apple is going to create a lot of buzz — and probably sky-high sales — when September rolls around.
