Members of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's family arrived Thursday in the U.S. as prosecutors rested their case seeking the death penalty for the Boston Marathon bomber, officials said.
The relatives arrived at Boston's Logan International Airport in the afternoon, the aviation director of the Massachusetts Port Authority, told New England Cable News. Multiple senior law enforcement sources also confirmed the report to NBC News.
Tsarnaev was born in Kyrgyzstan and emigrated to Russia and then, at age 8, to the U.S. It couldn't be determined whether his relatives traveled to Boston to testify in his behalf during the penalty phase of his trial after he was convicted for his role in the April 15, 2013, bombing, which killed three people and wounded more than 260 others.
The group didn't include Tsarnaev's mother, who has an outstanding local shoplifting warrant and would have been subject to arrest at customs.
