An American aid worker who was infected with Ebola in Africa seems to be getting stronger, her husband told reporters from a North Carolina RV park where he and two other missionaries are being quarantined. "I get a sense she is getting stronger," David Writebol said in a Skype call of his wife Nancy. "I want to see her. I want to be with her."
Nancy Writebol contracted Ebola in Liberia, although David Writebol said Wednesday it's still too early to determine how she got the infection. She is being treated in Atlanta. Meanwhile, David and two American doctors who cared for Ebola patients in Liberia flew to Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday and have been staying on the campus of SIM USA, the mission group that sponsored their efforts in West Africa. The three have been quarantined, despite not showing any symptoms.
The historic outbreak has killed more than 1,000 people in West Africa. "We knew that we had to do something to relieve their suffering," David said Wednesday, adding that Nancy's work helped keep doctors safe. "We go where God leads us and where there's a need."
