Medical staff in the hot zone put their own lives at risk to care for the ill. Comfort Harris Kollie, a scrub nurse at International Medical Corps Ebola Treatment Unit in Liberia, contracted the virus but recovered. “We are glad to have her back,” said her son Jimmy. Comfort came back to work just last week.

Ebola has infected at least 13,000 people in West Africa, and killed at least 5,000. If the deadly virus isn't stopped, the CDC estimates that up to 1.4 million people could be infected by the end of January 2015.
