A visibly frustrated House Speaker John Boehner slammed President Barack Obama's handling of the border crisis Thursday, saying that the commander in chief should take responsibility for the problem.
“This is a problem of the president’s own making,” he said. “He’s been president for five and a half years! When's he going to take responsibility for something?"
Boehner also indicated that House Republicans won’t give the president a “blank check” to deal with the issue. But, he added, he does believe that Congress should act this month to address the influx of unaccompanied minors from Central America.
“I’ll tell you this, we’re not giving the president a blank check,” he said of Obama’s request for a $3.7 billion emergency fund for the humanitarian crisis. “Beyond that, we will await further discussions with our members before we make any final decisions."
