Fighter jets, bombers and drones carried out more than 30 airstrikes against the Islamic terror group ISIS in Syria and in Iraq Friday, destroying vehicles, groups of fighters and rocket and mortar systems, U.S. Central Command said.

A total of 16 airstrikes were carried out in Syria and 15 in Iraq, the military said. The strikes are part of an effort to weaken the extremist militant group that have seized control of parts of both countries, and who have executed Western hostages and broadcast video of their deaths.

Central Command did not say how many fighters the strikes are believed to have killed. Several countries, including five Arab nations, have joined in the effort to attack ISIS from the air. On Wednesday, ISIS captured a Jordanian pilot after his F-16 fighter jet crashed in Syria, the U.S. military said, although the government disputed claims by the terror group that it shot down the jet.
