The families of Western hostages murdered by ISIS have expressed mixed feelings about news that Mohammed Emwazi was targeted by a U.S. airstrike near Raqqa, Syria.

Dubbed "Jihadi John," the Kuwaiti-born British citizen appeared in a series of gruesome videos last year showing the killings of U.S. journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, U.S. aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig, British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning, and Japanese Journalist Kenji Goto.

Here's how some of their relatives reacted.

Steven Sotloff's mother Shirley Sotloff: “This development doesn’t change anything for us; it’s too little too late. Our son is never coming back. More importantly, today, we remember Steven’s remarkable life, his contributions and those of James Foley, Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig, Kayla Mueller, David Haines, Alan Henning, Kenji Goto, and everyone else who has suffered at the hands of ISIS.”

David Haines' daughter Bethany Haines: "He was only a pawn in ISIS' stupid game ... As much as I wanted him dead I also wanted answers as to why he did it, why my dad, how did it make a difference?"

Alan Henning's brother Reg Henning: “Hopefully this is the end of it ... I would have preferred him to face justice."
