A protest as the St. Louis Rams played the San Francisco 49ers on Monday capped a day of civil disobedience in and around the Missouri city where unarmed teenager Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer two months ago. Protesters unfurled banners at the Edward Jones Stadium reading “Rams Fans Know, On and Off the Field, Black Lives Matter.”
In total, 49 people were arrested during what organizers called a "Moral Monday" of direct action. Those detained included activist Cornel West, who was later released. Among the locations for the protests were at least two Wal-Mart stores, targeted because of the fatal shooting in August of a man by police at a store in Ohio, and the city's police headquarters.
