When Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced on Thursday that the state Highway Patrol would take over security in Ferguson, no one expected the agency's captain to take such a personal approach. Capt. Ron Johnson, who grew up in the now heartbroken neighborhood, didn't just lend his department's support, he actually led a peaceful march through town, hugged residents, shook hands and promised journalists he would set up staging areas.
