TEL AVIV, Israel - The driver of a construction vehicle slammed into a bus and overturned the empty vehicle in Jerusalem on Monday, interrupting a brief cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Israeli police described the incident as a possible terrorist attack. The driver was shot and killed at the scene by an officer, according to police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld. "Six other people were lightly wounded in this attack," he added. Israel's Channel 10 TV showed cellphone video of what it said was the attack. The video showed the yellow construction vehicle slamming the large shovel on its front end into the bus. Palestinians have gone on deadly rampages with bulldozers in the past.

The war, which has killed more than 1,880 Palestinians in less than a month, has cycled through several cease-fires, and the latest one, declared by Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, appeared to have a calming effect. But the Jerusalem assault, in an area near the line that divides Israeli and Arab parts of Jerusalem, reignited tensions. Late Monday, Israel announced it had resumed attacks on targets in Gaza.

Tensions have been high between Arabs and Jews in the region amid a monthlong war between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.
