Hamas’ militant wing said Friday that a missing Israeli soldier who is feared captured may have been killed in the ambush.

"We lost contact with the troops deployed in the ambush and assess that these troops were probably killed by enemy bombardment, including the solider said to be missing, presuming that our troops took him prisoner during the clash," the Al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement.

The militant group went on to say it "has no information about the missing soldier, his place, or the circumstances of his disappearance."

The Israeli military said 2nd Lt. Hadar Goldin, 23, went missing after an ambush that also killed two other Israeli soldiers, and it feared Goldin had been captured by militants and dragged into a tunnel used by fighters to infiltrate Israel from Gaza. The incident occurred 90 minutes after the start of a 72-hour cease-fire which quickly broke down Friday.
