The Vietnam air force spotted two oil slicks Saturday consistent with fuel that would be left by a crashed plane, The Associated Press reported.
In a statement, the Vietnamese government said that the slicks, 9 and 6 miles long, were spotted off the southern tip of Vietnam.
Authorities suspect they were from the Malaysian Airlines jetliner that vanished over the South China Sea., according to the AP.
The missing plane, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, last made contact with air traffic control over the water between Malaysia and Vietnam.
