Nine aircraft and eight ships covered more than 97,000 square miles on Sunday in the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet, according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

In Sydney, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said that the "intensifying search effort" was positive because objects "have been recovered from the ocean." Trash and other debris were retrieved Friday and Saturday, but the objects spotted Sunday had not yet been recovered by ships, according to AMSA.

A "number" of objects were retrieved from the search area — an area roughly the size of Poland — on Saturday, but those "objects have been described as fishing equipment and other flotsam" and are are not believed to be related to the plane, which vanished on March 8.

More objects were spotted in the search area, which "cannot be verified or discounted as being from MH370 until they are relocated and recovered by ships," AMSA said.

The search concluded Sunday without confirmed evidence of the missing plane and will resume Monday morning "subject to weather conditions," AMSA said.
