Four law enforcement sources tell NBC News that the wife of alleged New York bomber Ahmad Rahami is en route to the New York City area later tonight or overnight.

Officials say that Aziza Bibi Rahami, whose first name has also been reported as Azia, is not in custody and is not considered a suspect. They say she is a “witness” and she is being accompanied by a U.S. government air marshal on her flight to an East Coast airport.

Several sources say that when she lands at the airport, she will not be deplaned through the gate with the rest of the passengers.

She was questioned by the FBI Tuesday in the United Arab Emirates, according to a senior law enforcement official.

The official says she told the FBI she knew nothing about any plan by her husband to carry out terror attacks or bombings.

According to the official, she left the U.S. in June for Pakistan, planning to spend the summer there. She was due to return this week, but the FBI had her stopped in the U.A.E. so she could be questioned more quickly.

The official did not know the date on which she left the U.S.

Federal criminal charges filed against Rahami said he began ordering materials to build his bombs late that month -- on June 20.
