A Pop Flair to the Warmup Act: 'Get Lucky'

The lights are down inside Fisht Olympic Stadium as the last moments tick away before the opening ceremony. It’s set to start at 11:14 a.m. ET — the symbolic time of 20:14 here in Sochi.

And the pregame show has a decidedly pop feel: The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs choir, famous on YouTube and in full uniform here tonight, is warming up the crowd with Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”

Organizers provided some stats ahead of time about tonight’s show: It includes 3,000 performers helped by 2,000 volunteers. There are 6,000 costumes and 3,500 fireworks weighing more than 22 tons.
