Oscar Pistorius will not be allowed to compete at the Rio 2016 Paralympics if his sentence for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp stands, an International Paralympic Committee spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

Pistorius, a six-time Paralympic track champion, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics at London 2012.

Pistorius, 27, could serve less than a year in prison of a maximum five-year sentence. Even if he is released from prison early and under correctional supervision in that case, the IPC would not allow him to compete in Brazil in September 2016.
