A 17-year-old student critically wounded in last week’s suburban Pittsburgh stabbing spree is improving, and has been upgraded to fair condition, doctors said Thursday.
Jared Boger was stabbed mere millimeters from his heart during the attack at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pa., where a 16-year-old boy is accused of knifing 21 students and an adult security guard.
Boger was the most severely injured, and was on life support as he underwent a string of surgeries.
The knife had gone through his liver, cut his diaphragm and barely missed his heart and aorta, according to doctors at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Three other victims remain in area hospitals, reported NBC affiliate WPXI. Students at Franklin Regional returned to classes Wednesday.
The suspect, sophomore Alex Hribal, was charged with four counts of attempted murder and 21 counts of aggravated assault. Prosecutors have yet to detail a motive.
