Athletes Go From Independent to India

They entered the Olympics without acknowledgement of their home nation, but will leave with its flag flying in the athletes' village.

Shiva Keshavan and two other athletes are now competing under their nation's flag at the Sochi Games.

India has returned to the Olympic fold after the International Olympic Committee lifted a ban on the country's Olympic Association on Tuesday.

The Indian athletes walked out at the Fisht Olympic Stadium’s opening ceremony parade on Feb. 7 not behind their country’s tricolor, but under the Olympic flag as “independent athletes” -- after India was suspended from the Olympic movement in December 2012 because it failed to comply with the Olympic charter.
