The New England Patriots’ nail-biting win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday drew the highest overnight rating in Super Bowl history. NBC Sports said Monday that the game earned a 49.7 rating and a 72 share. That means that 49.2 percent of households with a television watched the Super Bowl, and 72 percent of televisions in use were tuned to the game.
The previous records for overnight Super Bowl ratings are 48.1 and 71, for Super Bowl XLVII two years ago. The Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers in a game that included a 34-minute power outage at the Superdome in New Orleans.
