Pro-Russian Ukrainian separatists have recovered the black boxes from downed Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and will hand them over to the International Civil Aviation Organization, a rebel leader said Sunday.

The devices were delivered to Donetsk and are in the possession by separatist leader Alexander Borodai, he said Sunday. Borodai said he'll pass them on to the ICAO, a UN specialized aviation group, though experts have yet to verify the objects' connection to the downed flight MH17.

"I can tell you that as of today, we have found some technical details of this plane, which we suppose can be those 'black boxes', the so-called black boxes," said Borodai.

"These objects have been delivered to the city of Donetsk and are under my control," he added. "We are expecting the representatives of a specialized organization, ICAO in this case, whom we are ready to pass these objects of the plane's technical equipment."
