Vice presidential debates generally don’t determine who wins the White House -- but that doesn’t stop political watchers from picking winners and losers.
No sooner had veep hopefuls Mike Pence and Tim Kaine wrapped up their first and only head-to-head match-up of the election season than pundits and politicos took to social media to share their thoughts.
The consensus? Pence acted and sounded the most presidential, but failed to defend the controversial man at the top of the Republican ticket, Donald Trump. Kaine, meanwhile, did a good job at playing the role of Robin to Clinton’s Batman -- to use a different comic book reference from Trump -- repeatedly going after the Republican presidential candidate while staying on message.
In short, Kaine acted like someone running for vice president in 2016; Pence seemed to have his eyes set on running for president in 2020.
