What’s it like to see the universe through the mind of Stephen Hawking? A new iPad app tries to get you there.

The renowned physicist, arguably the most famous living scientist, has teamed up with Random House on an app, called “Stephen Hawking’s Snapshots of the Universe,” that teaches the principles that control our universe through eight “simple and fun” experiments.

It’s the first official app from Hawking, the 71-year-old British theoretical physicist and author of the best-selling popular-science book “A Brief History of Time.”

"This app provides a great opportunity to introduce Professor Hawking's teachings to a whole new audience, through an entirely new medium," Scott Shannon, senior vice president and publisher of digital content at Random House, said Thursday in a news release. "We are very proud to continue our publishing tradition with Professor Hawking, now across more platforms than ever."

The app is available on the iTunes Store for $4.99.
