Chicagoans have one more reason to be proud of their home: The Windy City's cellular networks were found to be the best in the country on average in tests performed by mobile analytics firm RootMetrics. The triumph is especially impressive considering the vast area and 8 million people that make up the city — other big population centers didn't fare so well. New York and the Tri-State area, for instance, ranked first in population (Chicago is third), but 97th in its overall score. RootMetrics tested speed, reliability, and other factors throughout the first half of 2014 and synthesized the data into easy-to-digest numbers — like a walkability or safety score. Oklahoma City and Lansing took the next two spots on the list, but the only other cities with a million people or more to crack the top 10 were Detroit, which was seventh overall, and Atlanta, in tenth. You can browse more specific scores per city at the RootMetrics ranking website.
