It's not just millennials posing in front of their smartphones. Recently, social media has been flooded with selfies from older people — like, hundreds of years old.

It all started when designer Olivia Muus visited the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen. She snapped a photo of a famous piece of art "taking" a selfie -- and the Museum of Selfies was born!

"I took a picture for fun and liked how this simple thing could change their character and give their facial expression a whole new meaning," she wrote on her Tumblr blog, a home for her own creations and those submitted by fans.

On Twitter and Instagram, people have been posting photos with the hashtag #museumofselfies and the results have been hilarious.

So next time you judge a group of teens snapping a selfie, remember, astronautskoalas and even revered works of art do it now.
