Twitter is taking a page from Facebook by letting users "like" messages, an action that will replace the old "favorite" feature.
Starting on Tuesday, Twitter and Vine users will see a heart icon instead of the star that existed before. The reason?
"We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers," wrote Akarshan Kumar, product manager at Twitter.
"You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite. The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones."
Twitter already uses hearts on Periscope, its mobile live-streaming service. The "like" feature is now appearing on the Twitter app for iOS and Android, twitter.com and TweetDeck, and will soon be showing up on Twitter for Mac and Vine for iOS.
