Best Buy is testing out a one-day delivery service option in the San Francisco area, the company confirmed to NBC News on Monday, as retailers fight to keep up with Amazon heading into the busy holiday season.

Tech website Re/code first reported on the delivery option, which covers an area from San Francisco to San Jose, California. Packages will be transported and dropped off through a partnership with the startup Deliv, Re/code reported.

It’s the latest move by a big-box retailer to compete with online giant Amazon, which has recently rolled out a variety of delivery choices and promotions — including kicking off its “Black Friday” sales weeks ahead of time. Amazon wants to get consumers signed on to its subscription Prime service, and offers services to members including free two-day shipping and same-day delivery in more than a dozen metro areas.

Deliv has already worked with a number of other major companies, including Bloomingdale’s, Foot Locker and Macy’s. The delivery business in general has gotten more competitive over the past year, with the U.S. Postal Service, Kohl's and Uber introducing same-day delivery in targeted areas.
