Real-life Portal gun opens up trouble

Portal: Terminal Velocity
Jason Craft

Anyone who has ever played the amazing "Portal" games has surely imagined what it would be like to have a Portal gun in the real world. Oh the fun you could have!

Jason Craft hasn't just wondered, he's shown us.

His short film "Portal: Terminal Velocity" is a look at what happens when three friends try out their brand new Portal gun in the ... uh ... safety of their own home.

(For another look at what happens when a Portal gun falls into real-world hands, check out Freddie Wong's short here.

In describing his video on YouTube, Craft says he tried to match the "Portal" games as closely as possible.

"This was the most challenging project I have ever undertaken, consisting of 3-D tracking, seamless camera cuts and 3-D camera projection," he says.

So how did he make it all happen? It seems Craft is a visual effects and motion graphics artist who works for a company called Ghost Productions where he creates animations showing off new surgical tools. Check out his demo reel for some more more fun with visual effects.
