The iconic "Aliens" films will be coming to creepy new life on the Nintendo DS this fall.
Sega announced Wednesday that "Aliens: Infestation" — launching in September — will allow players to explore large-scale recreations of some of the most famed locations from the film series.
In this 2D side-scrolling action game, players will be able to explore the Sulaco, the Derelict ship, and LV-426 from the movies. Armed with classic weapons from the films, you'll be sent up against the Xenomorph hive. Along the way, you'll be able to recruit and play as 19 different Marines, each with unique dialog.
Even more reason to look forward to this game: the visuals are being provided by respected comic book artist Chris Bachalo.
"Aliens: Infestation" — which is being developed by WayForward in collaboration with Gearbox Software — will be the first in a two-part "Aliens" game revival from Sega designed to expand on and further explore the iconic film series.
Last month, Sega announced that Gearbox (the folks behind "Duke Nukem Forever," "Borderlands" and "Brothers in Arms") was working on "Aliens: Colonial Marines" — a first-person shooter for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It's a game that Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, described as "an interactive successor to the landmark films."
Here, take a look at the trailer from last month's Electronic Entertainment Expo:
"Aliens: Colonial Marines will be THE definitive 'Aliens' gaming experience," Gary Knight, Sega's Senior Vice President of Marketing, has insisted. The game is due to launch Spring of 2012.
So how will the DS game differ from the console game?
"In contrast to our other 'Aliens' title in the works at the moment, 'Aliens: Infestation' delivers a game that focuses more on exploration of the expanded universe," Knight said.
But rest assured, it looks as though both games with have plenty of face-hugs for everyone.
