"You like someone. They're in a relationship. Be the first to know when they're out of it."
The tagline for Breakup Notifier, a recently released Facebook app, poses an almost irresistible question to the creepy stalkers inside us all: What if we could instantly know when that cutie next door becomes single — without constantly refreshing his or her Facebook profile to check for relationship status changes?
Breakup Notifier lets us do just that.
The app was designed by a fellow named Dan Loewenherz and it has one simple purpose: To check the Facebook relationship statuses of the people you're interested in every ten minutes and notify you via e-mail the moment something changes. Right now this service is free, but there are suggestions that there will be some sort of premium paid version in the future.
Creepy? Yes. Potentially useful? Maybe. Hilarious? Definitely.
UPDATE: Dan Loewenherz, Breakup Notifier's creator, has explained to us that on "Wednesday or Thursday, [he is] going to start charging a couple Facebook credits for each friend you watch." Until then, you can play around with the app for free. Just be careful, because Loewenherz also noted that he created several easter eggs which are triggered when someone who is already in a relationship attempts to follow another individual using his app.
